YAAAAAAAAAAY!
Hello! The Aquadome needs your help! We’re trying to save up for a PA system. People have been super nice to us over the past year or so by letting us borrow their sound equipment or, in some cases, actually running sound for us, but we think it’s time to do it ourselves. Anything you can spare will a major help. Endless thank yous for everybody!!!!!!
Happy summer to everyone!
We have officially started our summer hiatus for the months of May, June, and July. But, be on the lookout for at least one show and some workdays over our break. We may be closed, but we are still working on building up the Dome visually and planning on how to make our second year of serving Kirksville even better. (Watch out for a newsletter with more info about all that.) If you have any comments, or questions, email theaquadome@gmail.com. Keep in touch! Cuz you know we will!!
Best,
The Dome

I don’t just like the name “The Aquadome,” I love it.
I don’t know where the name came from,
who came up with it,
or the story behind it. But I love it.
The name conjures up a framework of vivid imagery,
I envision a droplet of water on the hood of a car… a small-scale
oasis of sorts.
Inside this tiny dewdrop is, in effect, a Neverland that doesn’t
necessarily abide the common laws of physics;
a fleeting microcosm;
a fluid universe of our own creation;
a place were people can come and steep themselves in a fanciful,
almost otherworldly atmosphere that won’t exist come morning.
It’s like an anti-bubble.
It’s a rainbow submarine only with the inside and outside switched.
Since water is a better conductor for sound than air is,
it’s through this metaphorical medium that I can attach such clear
meaning to an otherwise cryptic sounding name.

From the article:
One trip changed alumna Brie Vuagniaux’s
life.She has been in rock bands, opened a music
venue and worked at a clown camp, but the four
and half months studying abroad in Ghana during
the Fall 2010 semester is when Vuagniaux
said she realized her greatest passion: nursing.While in Ghana, Vuagniaux visited the
Buduburam Refugee Camp, which housed
20,000 Liberian refugees. She and a few
friends who also were studying abroad, saw
the need for basic sex education with the
women of the camp, she said.The group decided to make a zine, a homemade
magazine, with information regarding
women’s health. They printed copies to bring
into the camp with them. They hosted three
workshops and met with women groups ranging
in age from 13 to 80 years old…
